Black Jasmine Liubao Tea

About This Tea
Black Jasmine? Yes, it's a thing!

Jasmine tea is usually made by taking green tea leaves and aromatizing them with jasmine flowers. Flowers are laid over the tea leaves at night, when their scent emerges. The scent inundates the tea, providing fragrance without chemical sprays or additives.

This tea uses black liubao tea instead of green tea, and also goes through four rounds of aromatization, more than standard jasmine tea that is usually exported out of China.

The result is explosive jasmine fragrance combined with a dark, smooth, and warm black tea. Everything you love about Jasmine tea, but with even more flavor!

Come with Jesse to the Beijing Tea Market in this YouTube Vlog where we learn about Black Jasmine is made and drink it with Wu Kai, our Beijing Tea Friend!

What is "Liu Bao" Tea?

Liu Bao tea is a type of "Hei Cha", which is known as "dark tea" or black tea. This is different from the black tea drunk in the West, which the Chinese call "red tea."

Liu Bao comes from Guangxi province in China, and it is a fully oxidized tea, which means it is dark, smooth, and warming. Across China, people drink it to aid the stomach and digestion. For this tea, we used Wuzhou Liu Bao, which is one of the best regions for producing Liu Bao.

Liu Bao also has a slight "funk" to it from the fermentation and oxidization process. It only gets better with age!

Jesse Says:

I got a 100g sample of this tea and quickly ran out because I made it for every guest that came over, that's how much I liked it.

Every single one of them - from Jesse's Teahouse fans who came to a live tea tasting in LA, to my parents - absolutely loved this tea.

I am super proud of this tea, since as far as I know it's the only Black Jasmine that can be found outside of China, and it's not easy to get there, either.

It's what I see as a perfect tea for my shop - something new mixed with something familiar. If you're a Jasmine tea lover, give this one a try!

VALUE AND QUALITY

Want the best value? This tea comes in 100g and 357g (full cake) sizes - check the drop-down menu above!

Jesse's Teahouse started because Jesse realized the quality and value of the tea directly from the Beijing Tea Market was so much higher than what could be easily found in the States -- and around the world.

Jesse contacted his tea friends, they shipped their best teas to him, and he sends them to you. That's it!

These teas are high quality and can be re-steeped multiple times! Each serving makes between 4-8 cups of tea, so at around $.50 a cup, you get top quality Chinese teas at a price that you can enjoy every day.

NOT JUST TEA, TEA CULTURE

Jesse believes the key to making good tea is to help his Chinese tea friends share not just their best teas, but the best ways to make the teas.

That's why each box comes also comes with an info card that tells you:

  • Tea Origin
  • Steep Temperature
  • Steep Time
  • Directions for both teapot steeping and gaiwan steeping

All Jesse’s Teahouse Tea Friends (that’s you now!) also get access to private YouTube videos where Jesse and his Chinese tea friends show you how to make the teas and explain the tea-making process.

The links are on QR codes on the back of the info card included in the tea box.

Don't Forget Your Tea Pets!

In Chinese Gongfu Tea Tradition, Tea Pets accompany you at teatime and you "raise" them by feeding them tea! Check out the tea pets at the bottom of this page.
