THIS SEASON'S BOX: Jesse’s Tea Club Box #13: Sky
After working our way through all 12 zodiac animals, our next subscription box series is based on “Ba Gua” - the mystical Chinese cosmology underlying the “Yin-Yang”!
Teas #1-5: Jesse’s 5 Tea Orange Sampler
2 x 5 tea orange samplers (10-20 sessions)
What is a Tea Orange?
Tea oranges, known as “Xiao Qing Gan” in Chinese, are tea leaves packed inside a special type of fragrant mandarin orange grown specifically for its aromatic peel.
The inside flesh of the fruit is scooped out, the peel is dried, and then filled with loose leaf tea. The result is a fantastic citrus scent during brewing, and a smooth, natural orange note in the tea.
The tea oranges in this series are the end result of over a year’s worth of tea scouting and sourcing, where I went in person to the orange fields and the tea mountains to find the best ingredients, put them together, and develop a complete line of amazing flavors, including both classics and innovative unique tastes.

What’s In the Sampler?
Each sampler includes one tea orange each (between 10-14g total weight each) of:
Jesse’s Royal Shou Pu’er Tea Orange: Dark, earthy, classic - it’s the most common type of pu’er tea orange and one of our best-sellers for the past four years.
Jesse’s Lapsang Souchong Tea Orange: This smoky, rich red tea is smoked with real pinewood, providing a deep flavor that plays along well with the citrus notes from the orange, a unique and interesting combination.
Jesse’s Red Snail Red Tea Orange: Curled, gorgeous red snail leaves pack the orange full of clean, honey-flavored goodness! This one emerged as a surprise favorite during our tea testing process.
Jesse’s Eastern Beauty Oolong Tea Orange: The fantastically fragrant Eastern Beauty is an unusual pick for a tea orange, but adding the citrus notes lends a juicy taste and mouthfeel that made this a surprise pick for the final sampler.
Jesse’s Moonlight White Tea Orange: The light-bodied Moonlight White tea provides crisp and clean flavor, with the leaf-and-bud style and boldness of this Yunnan tea has enough body to mix with the orange.
One tea orange will make many steeps of tea! Each makes between 8-15 steeps, depending on the tea type and steep time, in a 120ml gaiwan, perfect for hosting multiple people, or refreshing your cup throughout the day.
Note: Due to EU and UK import regulations, our EU and UK lapsang souchong oranges are unsmoked, and have more sweet, honey notes than dark, smoky notes.

One not enough? All flavors are available in their own individual 10-packs too!

Tea #6: Golden Snail Red Tea
1 x 50g bag (7-10 sessions)
Each bag contains 50g (7-10 sessions) of loose-leaf Golden Snail Red Tea.
Golden Snail is named for the beautiful, curled leaves which look like snail shells before they open into full loose leaves. Ours is grown in Yunnan, and their small shape means efficient packing and bold flavor.
This Red Snail has a fantastic clean malty flavor that melds beautifully with rich honey notes. A delicate floral fragrance is balanced very nicely alongside the gentle tannins of the red tea.

Jesse Says:
For me, the main tasting note of this tea was honey-sweetness, and I loved the full mouth-feel and well-balanced tannins.
That I liked this tea well enough to put it on the site as its own product shows how much this tea surprised me. I originally sourced this tea to be put inside tea oranges, as part of our tea orange series. Before we ever put the teas in oranges, I tried the tea samples of all of the teas straight-up as loose leaf, and even as I was surrounded by tons of tiny bags of tea samples, I found myself making this one for guests when they came as my example of the type of teas we might put in the oranges, and getting great reviews.
It’s not crazy, it’s not super unusual. It’s just really good tea at a good price that goes down smooth. I hope you enjoy it!

THIS SEASON'S TEA PET
Tea Orange Tea Pet
Why is it called an orange if it’s green?
Because - it turns orange under hot water!!!
This tea orange tea pet may not be edible, but it makes up for it with a fantastic color-changing parlor trick. By pouring hot water over the unripe green orange, it suddenly bursts into fully-ripe orange color!
After spending over a year to source fantastic tea oranges and fill them with high-quality tea, I figured the tea pet that went to our subscribers when they received their tea orange samplers should also be orange-themed.
While tea pets are commonly animals, plants are also often used as the inspiration for tea pets, with leaves and lotus flowers being common examples.
What Are Tea Pets?
Tea pets are part of the Chinese Gongfu Tea tradition, going back 1000 years. They live on the tea table and bring luck and auspiciousness when water or tea is poured on them.
Tea pets are a way to personalize your tea sessions. Pick the animals you feel a connection to!
THIS SEASON'S TEA CUP
Tea Orange Tea Cup

In Chinese, many words rhyme with orange
This tea cup and it’s lil’ orange artwork was made to go along with our Tea Orange Series!
After spending over a year to source fantastic tea oranges and fill them with high-quality tea, I figured the tea cup that went to our subscribers when they received their tea orange samplers should also be orange-themed.
I hired an artist in China to paint us a tea orange in traditional Chinese “Shan Shui” style, showing her the pictures from our (as of then unfinished) tea orange sourcing project. I think she captured the green freshness of the special type of unripe small mandarins used to make the tea oranges very well!

Then, we put the art on these beautifully shaped cups made of Dehua kaolin white porcelain with small, golden feet, and figured they would be perfect.
All our tea equipment passes all lead testing up to and beyond EU quality standards. It’s a great teacup!
