Dry Steep “Gan Pao” Wood & Resin Tray
What is a "Dry Steep" tea tray?
Dry steeping is a style of gongfu tea making where discarded water is poured into a bowl rather than being splashed on the tray as in "wet steeping" gongfu traditions.
Dry steeping trays have no drain or tray for spillage. They establish a tea area and allow for easy transport of all the tea equipment from place to place around a room.
Beyond its direct use making tea, tea trays also create a welcoming atmosphere for guests, inviting one and all to sit around the tray, enjoy tea and each others' company, stimulating conversation and enhancing the tea experience.
About our Wood and Resin Tea Tray Line
These trays are made in small batches, with each tray being slightly different from all the others.
Wood slices are selected and arranged inside a frame in order to create a landscape motif. Blue resin is then hand-poured into the trays, which are then let to rest until all bubbles have escaped. The resin hardens, protective lacquer is applied, and then tray is then buffed to a reflective shine.
Finally, we have engraved and painted in red the Jesse's Teahouse seal in the corner. Note: Some of our product photos were done before this step was finished, but we are getting new photos soon!

These trays are a bit unlike the other tea trays on the site.
Firstly, they are dry-steeping trays, which I don't feature as much on my videos, mainly because I usually do mostly wet-steeping at home.
But dry-steeping is a very popular and traditional choice for teamaking and many people prefer it to wet-steeping. Just make sure to prepare a bowl on or off of the table for any spillage water.
Secondly, I think you'll agree they look so good they can hold anything, and be put anywhere in the house. While these are made for tea, the uses around the home are endless. They can be used to make tea, display items, or even serve food.
I think these trays are a beautiful and subtle way to upgrade any space into a tea space. I hope you enjoy them!
