Sister Ai’s Chrysanthemum Shou Pu’er
What is Chrysanthemum Shou (Cooked) Pu'er?
Pu'er is the wine of teas, meticulously picked and aged with each tea mountain having its own personality. True Pu'er is only grown in Yunnan, China, right on the border of Myanmar in the heart of Southeast Asia. It is drunk throughout Asia for its fantastic flavor and health properties.
Shou, or "cooked" pu'er has been put through a process that involves piling the leaves and turning the pile repeatedly to rapidly increase oxidation and fermentation. The resulting tea is dark, complex, and known to calm the stomach and aid digestion.
This tea combines the rich low notes of shou pu’er with clean, fragrant high floral notes from wild chrysanthemums, hand-picked from the organic Tea Longevity Mountain in Guizhou province, from the same remote farm that grows the tea in our Guizhou sampler series.

THE TEA
Each box contains:
1 50g tea cake (7-10 sessions’ worth of tea, ~2 oz)

This tea contains two ingredients: Sister Ai’s 2017 Everyday Shou Pu’er Tea and wild Guizhou Chrysanthemums.
The tea:
Sister Ai’s cooked pu’ers are excellently balanced, with clean, earthy, dark flavors, and unmolested by fishy smells which can be a result of poor post-fermentation.
This shou is a good middle-of-the-road shou - a true “everyday” cooked pu’er. It’s not as rich as Duidui’s 2010 Reserve, and not as funky as Yunqing’s 2013 Chen Xiang. It is crisp, clean, and while it comes out very dark in color, it retains an easy-drinking quality that can sometimes be hard to find from a tea type with so much post-fermented flavor.
These leaves come from wild trees between 100-300 years old, with extensive root systems that reach far for nutrients and surrounded by native plants that contribute to a special terroir, making Yunnan ancient tree tea some of the best in the world.
The chrysanthemums:
One of the most popular flower teas in China and around the world, chrysanthemums have been steeped alongside tea and other Chinese herbs for millennia.
In Chinese Traditional Medicine, they are believed to reduce inflammation and help balance Qi in the liver and lungs. Their TCM classification is “Wei Han” or “Slightly Cold.”
While this tea is not formulated as medicine and makes no medicinal claims, the pure fresh fragrance of the flowers alone is a worthy match to the dark richness of the shou pu’er. It’s the perfect combo of floral scent and deep flavor!

Jesse Says:
These chrysanthemums are the best I’ve found in all of China in many years of sourcing!
When I visited Tea Longevity Mountain in Guizhou in summer of 2025, I noticed that besides tea, they had a variety of Chinese medicinal herbs as well as dried flowers that grow on the massive expanse of protected mountains which make up their organic farm.
I’ve wanted to do more tea and flower blends, but good flowers have been very difficult to source in China, since flowers are very difficult to cultivate without pesticide, and many Chinese flower vendors’ flowers fail import pesticide tests.
These chrysanthemums are different. Because they grow wild across the mountain, they are essentially “uncultivated” and contain no pesticide at all. Every year, the Guizhou tea farmers pick the wild chrysanthemums they see as they go about their other harvests, keeping them in separate pouches, and bringing them back. This is also why they are so small - the wild natural flowers are just smaller than human-cultivated types.
The result is the best chrysanthemums I’ve ever had - the scent is so clean and powerful you will be surprised that only a few flowers in any given pot will produce such a smell. Like the best flowers, they not only provide scent, but start to seep into the flavor of the tea by the third steep or so.
Note for EU customers: For some reason under EU law, it is much harder to import the pre-blended tea than to import tea and flowers separately. As such, customers buying from our EU warehouse will receive a 50g cake of Sister Ai’s everyday shou (the same base tea) and a small bag of flowers with instructions on how much flower to add to the tea by weight. Be aware the packaging you receive may look different from the one on this item page even though the product is exactly the same as in other markets. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to get great tea into the EU!

VALUE AND QUALITY
Jesse's Teahouse started because Jesse realized the quality and value of the tea directly from China was so much higher than what could be easily found in the States -- and around the world.
Jesse contacted his tea friends, they shipped their best teas to him, and he sends them to you. That's it!
These teas are high quality and can be re-steeped multiple times! Each session makes between 4-8 cups of tea, so at around $.50 a cup, you get top quality Chinese teas at a price that you can enjoy every day.
NOT JUST TEA, TEA CULTURE
Jesse believes the key to making good tea is to help his Chinese tea friends share not just their best teas, but the best ways to make the teas.
That's why each box comes also comes with an info card that tells you:
- Tea Origin
- Steep Temperature
- Steep Time
- Directions for both teapot steeping and gaiwan steeping
All Jesse’s Teahouse Tea Friends (that’s you now!) also get access to private YouTube videos where Jesse and his Chinese tea friends show you how to make the teas and explain the tea-making process.
The links are on QR codes on the back of the info card included in the tea box.
