Miao-Style Embroidered Tea Mat
The Miao people are an ethnic group who live throughout Guizhou province, and we couldn’t think of anything better to pair with our new Guizhou series of teas than some of their famous embroidery patterns!
This tea mat is made of two layers: the front piece is colorfully embroidered with traditional Miao patterns which is then sewn to a second backing cloth made of heavy cotton fabric. The result is a beautiful but surprisingly sturdy tea mat, for displaying cups, tea pots, or anything else!
Miao embroidery is famous all throughout China – we incorporated this art by adding an image of the Butterfly Mother, a Miao deity, that is located on the front of our Guizhou Province Sampler.
