Yunnan Golden Snail Red Tea

What’s in the bag?

Each bag contains 50g (7-10 sessions) of loose-leaf Red Snail Red Tea.

Golden Snail is named for the beautiful, curled leaves which look like snail shells before they open into full loose leaves. Their small shape means efficient packing and bold flavor.

This Red Tea has a fantastic clean malty flavor that melds beautifully with rich honey notes. A delicate floral fragrance is balanced very nicely alongside the gentle tannins of the red tea.

Jesse Says:

For me, the main tasting note of this tea was honey-sweetness, and I loved the full mouth-feel and well-balanced tannins.

That I liked this tea well enough to put it on the site as its own product shows how much this tea surprised me. I originally sourced this tea to be put inside tea oranges, as part of our tea orange series. Before we ever put the teas in oranges, I tried the tea samples of all of the teas straight-up as loose leaf, and even as I was surrounded by tons of tiny bags of tea samples, I found myself making this one for guests when they came as my example of the type of teas we might put in the oranges, and getting great reviews.

It’s not crazy, it’s not super unusual. It’s just really good tea at a good price that goes down smooth. I hope you enjoy it!

What is Red Tea?

Red tea is called “black tea” in the West, so if you’ve tried Earl Grey or English Breakfast, the flavor should be familiar to you.

It is made by hand-picking the leaves, withering them to remove moisture, rolling the leaves to break cell walls and release flavor, and then left to oxidize and ferment for several hours or up to overnight. This deepens flavors and gives red teas their classic malty, sweet, and very slightly tannic flavor, as well as a rich orange color.

Then, the leaves are gently heated to dry them out and make them suitable for long term storage.

Red tea is a fantastic choice for beginner tea drinkers because it is very familiar to the palate of tea drinkers around the world.

VALUE AND QUALITY
Jesse's Teahouse started because Jesse realized the quality and value of the tea directly from the Beijing Tea Market was so much higher than what could be easily found in the States -- and around the world.

Jesse contacted his tea friends, they shipped their best teas to him, and he sends them to you. That's it!

These teas are high quality and can be re-steeped multiple times! Each session makes the equivalent of between 3-6 mug’s worth of tea, so at around $.50 a cup, you get top quality Chinese teas at a price that you can enjoy every day.

NOT JUST TEA, TEA CULTURE

Jesse believes the key to making good tea is to help his Chinese tea friends share not just their best teas, but the best ways to make the teas.

That's why each box comes also comes with an info card that tells you:

  • Tea Origin

  • Steep Temperature

  • Steep Time

  • Directions for both teapot steeping and gaiwan steeping

All Jesse’s Teahouse Tea Friends (that’s you now!) also get access to private YouTube videos where Jesse and his Chinese tea friends show you how to make the teas and explain the tea-making process.

The links are on QR codes on the back of the info card included in the tea box.
