ZHANG JILONG

Ceramic Artist | Dunhuang | Gansu Province | China

"I feel like wood-fired pottery is both ancient and unpretentious. It has a natural beauty. The wood fire has no gatekeeper; our aesthetics are the only gatekeepers. When you see the pottery, you have a reaction. You might think it looks beautiful. If you think it is beautiful, it is beautiful."

Jesse Says:

I had a fantastic time in Dehua learning how to throw cups and bowls with Zhang Laoshi. We live-streamed the lesson and many people commented they would be interested in getting one of his pieces!

I personally really enjoy the varying colors of the fired clay, varying based off of where the pieces were in the kiln, and the rough hand feel of the work.

This series is an experiment to see if we can connect tea people with artists directly for for handmade works. If people like this sort of thing, we can do more of them!

lol i am so sunburned
